Tunnel Under Theory

John F. Nash, Jr.'s Equilibrium for Non-cooperative Games Theory and Le Chatelier's Principle (known as the Law of Chemical Equilibrium) as Examples of:

What to Expect from The Golden Rule's Social Justification

[Traducción en Español]

While working on a concept for a fictional story based on the The Tunnel Under Theory, the following words converged:

i think (and you seem to also) that our book has taken a bit of a girly paperback trend... and i don't think its a good idea. i think we were originally going for a philosophical thriller. and, we should definitely do that... and, not get too involved in the characters relationship... which would probably take away from whatever the real message is

any insight into that would be very helpful (since I'm still not entirely grasping it... and, it seems to be more your department)

I replied:

ok... sounds good to me.

hmmmm... let me see...

"the best responses of all players are in accordance with each other."

responsibility

the Tunnel Under Thesis has to do with these matters

on the one hand --
the average American... feels that they are independent (and proud of it!)

on the other hand --
the average American... feels like some other body is at fault for problems in the world ("the politicians are all hypocrites and are only interested in their careers" or "Businessmen... and oil run the world. Businessmen are all greedy pigs" or how about "Large corporations are polluting the world.")

thus... a flaw in our social fabric... and, to the 2nd's rack we go.

... at least in the worst case scenario.

that is to say... it should be obvious... that the politicians and the public corporations do what we tell them to do --

WE VOTE WITH OUR DOLLARS

every penny earned, saved and/or spent is a vote.

sooooo... the situation will degrade, until/unless we all... as a society... start to agree... that we are much more like... grass.

yup... grass.

each of us an individual blade... and from the surface... unique.

however, under the surface... well... we're all connected... and dependent upon each other.

do you see what i mean?

it is ok to be independent... and be responsible for your own actions... i admire any human that can get that far in life.

but, wouldn't you say it is just as important to be responsible for the rest?

what does this have to do with the story, you ask?

since it appears... toooo late for the best case scenario... the story is based on the worst case. ya know?

"a flaw in our social fabric... and, to the 2nd's rack we go."
-- me

i was sort-a thinking...

the male lead: would be the point-of-view from the surface... the independent blade of grass.

female lead: the point-of-view from the root system.

as the story progresses... they begin to understand each other's point-of-view... they start to sympathize... to realize... to synergize?

at the climax of the story... they get out of the worst case... and flip it into the best case scenario... by reaching a "Nash Equilibrium."

you know about nash? they did a movie 'bout em, A Beautiful Mind.

John F. Nash, Jr.
The Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 1994

"for their pioneering analysis of equilibria in the theory of non-cooperative games"

Game Theory
"The main purpose of game theory is to consider situations where instead of agents making decisions as reactions to exogenous prices ("dead variables"), their decisions are strategic reactions to other agents actions ("live variables"). An agent is faced with a set of moves he can play and will form a strategy, a best response to his environment, which he will play by. Strategies can be either "pure" (i.e. play a particular move) or "mixed" (random play).

A "Nash Equilibrium" will be reached when each agent's actions begets a reaction by all the other agents which, in turn, begets the same initial action. In other words, the best responses of all players are in accordance with each other."
