NY Loose-YEAR OF THE RAT

Hollywood Records

Good Tunes: The New York punk scene polished this gem for a crowd looking for power riffs, a fast beat, and music that just doesn't care.

Bad Notes: Isn't punk dead? (I thought disco was, too...)

Other Riffs: I really regret missing these guys when they were in town. One thing punk never lacks is raw energy. Not to mention they opened for the Reverend Horton Heat...

Doctor Hadley-MONDO BIZARRRO

Buzz Chunk Records
Good Tunes: Loud, fast guitar driven guitar rock that knows when to change gears between fast and very fast.

Bad Notes: There's more than one moment of pointless guitar strumming here. Just think of it as a bridge between the good parts.

Other Riffs: This is one of those CDs made for people whose stereos go to eleven.

Calliope-I CAN SEE YOU WITH MY EYES CLOSED

Thick Records
Good Tunes: Calliope blends soft jazz with harder rock to create a dynamic sound all their own. The result is kind of like a summer day where you relax most of the time, getting up occasionally for a water balloon fight or a dip in the pool.

Bad Notes: The recording lacks a bit of the punch needed to carry home the impact of some of the more intense passages.

Other Riffs: Watch for their new release that is supposed to be out this summer (or so I'm told).
