Tit Willow Y2K

By Gilbert, Sullivan and Mills

On a ledge down on Wall Street an IT bird sat
Singing "month month, day day year, year 2K"
And I said to him, "Dicky-bird, why do you sit
Singing "month month, day day year, year 2K"
"Is it weakness of COBOL code, birdie?" I cried,
"Or a rather tough worm in your UNIX inside?"
With a shake of his poor little head, he replied,
Oh, "month month, day day year, year 2K"

He slapped at his chest, as he sat on that ledge,
Singing "month month, day day year, year 2K"
And a cold perspiration bespangled his brow,
Singing "month month, day day year, year 2K"
He sobbed and he sighed, and a gurgle he gave,
Then he exited life without doing a save,
And an echo arose from the suicide's grave--
Oh, "month month, day day year, year 2K"

Now if you would enjoy the millenium day
program, "month month, day day year, year year year!"
you'll avoid all the sorrow just do it that way
That's, "month month, day day year, year year year!"
But if you remain callous and obdurate, I
shall perish as he did, and you will know why.
Though I probably shall not exclaim as I die,
Oh, "month month, day day year, year 2K"

Needless to say, the omniprescent Slug, who can never leave well enough alone, replied:

O birdie we grieve at your sad little fate,
Singing, Four Y and two M and two D.
Your mad little sacrifice was all in vain,
Singing, Four Y and two M and two D.
Parochial interest has sealed up your fate,
You died defending an ambiguous date,
Singing Why Why Why,
Why Em Em,
and then, Dee Dee,
is better, much better, far better.

With apologies to Messrs Gilbert, Sullivan and Mills.
